Movie showcase: Mr. Claus Habfast, Executive Producer, of ESA Television explains why ESA benefits from Telemak's automated encoding platform.
OUR MISSION

At the turn of the century, Telemak was contracted by the European Space Agency to develop an automated system for the encoding of video files straight from the online edit suite. In 2005, Telemak delivers the second generation of the platform, using the latest online media technologies to again provide ESA with a state of the art facility.
The encoding facility gives the editor and director the possibility to prepare a program, and send a preview to the ESA management based in different locations in Europe in The Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany. Once the preview is approved, the encoding suite will make several versions available, including QuickTime, MPEG 4 and Windows Media. Those files are then added to the ESA Television portal, for direct viewing and download by anyone interested in the matter, including journalists and TV producers. With the new suite MPEG 4 at 1 Mb was added, nearing DVD quality. This enables ESA to provide the program in a good enough quality for the producers to use it as is in their editing suites. All by all enormously increasing delivery times to the public, and reducing the cost of copying and delivering tapes around the world.
In the future, Telemak will keep the system operational through both remote and on-site monitoring and maintenance.
